Our New Bedroom

Ben finished our bedroom, oh, about two weeks before Christmas or so. I really wish I would have taken a "before" picture, but oh well. I did manage to get a couple of pictures of the process. Here is Ben, putting primer on the walls:

And Ben was really sweet to let Dylan help him with the flooring:

It's a basement room, so I was worried about putting laminate flooring down there. Plus, it just feels weird to me to have a hard floor in a bedroom, but it was so much cheaper than carpet, and it turned out really pretty:

And didn't the walls turn out so pretty, too? I love purple. Here is Ben, touching up the paint after putting on the baseboards. Again, I wouldn't have chosen these kinds of baseboards, but they turned out better than I pictured:

And here are pictures of the finished product:

Ben did all the electrical work himself. He put special lighting above the bed and above my dresser. It's awesome for reading in bed at night. And then I can reach over and turn off the light without having to get up. We realized, after everything was done, that our closet doors turned out to be kind of off-white. We'll have to paint them white.

This is my dresser area. Someday, if we have to use this room as a family room, this nook can be used for an entertainment system/TV area:

Just to the left of the dresser is actually a door disguised as part of the wall - Ben's idea. If you open that door, you walk into our storage area. The door to the right of the dresser is the door you take to walk up the stairs. It's actually a sliding door. Again, Ben's idea. And part of me wants to say, "Can't we just have normal doors?" But he's an architect, and he's been having so much fun with this. I say, as long as our bed is out of the living room, I'm okay with weird doors.

And here's the other side of the bedroom, opposite the closet. That's Ben's dresser:

And it's hard to see, but the purple on the walls matches some of the squiggly purple stripes on our bedspread. Purple walls wasn't a random choice. :)

So. Pretty, huh? I'm very, very pleased. Ben needs to put covers on all the electrical outlets and light switches, and we have to paint the closet and bedroom doors, and someday we'll have to get blinds and curtains for our window, but we'll get there eventually.
