The Seamstress

By the way, did you know that male sewers refer to themselves as "seamsters"? This is something I just learned. That reminds me of that Rob Schneider character on SNL, Rick the Copy Guy. "There goes the seamster. The seam-o-rama. Sewing up the seams. The seam-a-rooney...."

Sadie takes dance lessons from my cute cousin, Kort. My mom is one of Kort's seamstresses. Kort gives us free lessons in return for my mom's services. Which is really, really nice of my mom.

The girls have three dances they perform at each recital. And they are all completely different genres. The recital they're having next week has a 1920's flapper dance (this is my favorite one), a 1950's-type dance (to "My Boyfriend's Back"), and a cheerleading routine (to "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey). I can't wait to video the dances and post them up here. Kort is the best choreographer ever.

My mom sewed the cutest costumes in the world for these dances, and she did it in record time.

Often, Sadie is my mom's live mannequin for the costumes. Mom's been working on costumes for next spring's recital, which will involve a pirate dance, among others. She came over a few weeks ago to try a costume on Sadie:

Could you just die???:

So stinkin' cute!!! (Speaking of dying, I felt like I was dying that day. See me in the corner, holding Gage? I had the worst flu bug. Yikes. Bikes.) Those arm bands actually go to the flapper costume, not the pirate costume. Mom wanted to make sure they were the right size.

Kort has the costumes done in the best way ever. The girls all wear black leotards, tights, and ballet slippers. Then they have skirts and things that go over the costumes, making for quick costume changes and modesty. I cannot tell you how many times, when I did ballet, that I had to change costumes in the wings of a theater while friends held up blankets all around me to shield my nakedness. This eliminates that problem. Sheer genius.

Mom found this cute applique to put on the headbands, too:

She is so creative and cool.
