Sweet Lexi

I already miss this girl a ton. She was only here for a few days, but we had a good time. She is so great with my kids.

Sadie had speech therapy on Wednesday, and Dylan has a really hard time staying away from Sadie and the therapist - the therapy is all play-based, and the attraction of different, new toys and the chance to interact with someone is almost more than he can bear. I usually have to take him to Mom's house during therapy, or I have to make him help me in the kitchen with dishes and cooking. Lex offered to take him out to ice cream, which made the afternoon very nice for Sadie and her therapist (and for me). She is awesome.

She is leaving for Europe in a few days, and I'm soooo jealous. Nat and I have both been to Europe, so we gave her advice on the best places to go. She will have a ball. I told her to beware of European men. Extremely vocal and forward. Especially with her blonde hair and blue eyes. Be carefey, Lex, very carefey! (What movie?)

Hanging Out

Lexi was in town for a few days, so one night, we all got together and ate and played Phase 10. Me:

A Few Cards I've Made Recently

People in my family and Ben's family keep getting sick and/or having surgery, so I finally sat down and made about ten of these get-well cards:

My stepfather-in-law, Greg, actually "commissioned" me to make this one for his mom for Mother's Day. He wanted something with a flap that opened and had a picture behind the flap:

Verbrato

Dylan has just discovered the concept of verbrato in singing. He thinks it is so silly and funny, so he adds verbrato to everything he sings, just to get a giggle out of mommy. In this video, he's singing "Circle of Life," from The Lion King:

Mommy Hair

Okay, so I shed a little bit, alright? I have thyroid disease, so I shed faster than other people, and my hair is dark and relatively long. So sometimes, on occasion, you will see a strand of my hair here and there - mainly in the bathroom. Or should I say MANELY in the bathroom?? Ha-ha-ha! I'm sooo punny. It's three in the morning. Sorry. I can't sleep, so I'm blogging.

Anyways, my stray, shed hairs are a source of fear for poor little Sadie. If she sees one, she will scream, "Mommy Hair!!" and run the other way. There have been several times that she will see one in the tub when she's sitting in there, and she'll edge to the other side of the tub, yelling and crying, "Mommy Hair! Mommy Hair!!" until I get a piece of toilet paper and fish the offending hair out of the tub water.

Now, anything hairy or fuzzy in any way is a Mommy Hair. A piece of lint. A piece of her own hair. A dust bunny in the corner of our hardwood-floored dining room. A little piece of a cotton ball. They are all Mommy Hairs, and they all strike terror into her heart. So funny.

Air Quotes

Tonight, my parents came over for a minute, and Dylan and my dad were talking about Dylan's friends.

Dad said, "So who are your friends in this neighborhood?"

Dylan: "I like to play with H.B. and his sisters."

Dad: "Well, that sounds like fun."

Dylan: "But I can't play with them today because [speaking sarcastically and using air quotes with his fingers] we don't play on Sundays."

I laughed so hard when Dad told me about that. I didn't know Dylan knew how to use air quotes!!

Sandy Feet

Dylan is always kneeling and sitting on his feet. I don't know how he can do that. Even in my childhood, sitting like that has always been really uncomfortable for me. But Ben sits that way all the time. Because Dylan often sits that way, his feet fall asleep a lot, and he freaks out at the pins-and-needles sensation he gets. He always starts crying and yelling, "My feet feel sandy! My feet feel sandy!!"
