I think there were two issues that made them break so badly. Issue number one: I think I made them too thick. Issue number two: After we cooked the cookies and they had cooled a little bit, I put them into a tupperware container. I should have cooled them longer so that they were stiffer. So we ended up frosting a lot of small, broken-off pieces. There were maybe four whole cookies when all was said and done. The rest were in pieces.

Sadie Lou-Who is so funny. She kept forgetting that she needs to have frosting as a base so that the sprinkles stick. I had to keep saying, "Frosting First! FF!" And then she insisted on sprinkling a little bit from every single sprinkle jar onto each cookie. So she had yellow sprinkles, red sprinkles, green sprinkles, and multi-colored sprinkles on every cookie. And when she went to put the cookies on the waxed paper, most of the sprinkles would fall off, because she would keep forgetting the FF rule. Here she is, with one of her frosting-less cookies:
Sigh. Making sugar cookies is such a pain in the butt. I would totally throw that Christmas tradition out the window, but again, the pull of sugar cookie dough is too much for me to bear. :)
I think they look delicious...the cookies, not your children. Your children are extremely cute, but not in a mid-afternoon snack kind of way. The cookies, on the other hand, are very mid-day-munchable. You should be proud of your cookies and your kids :)
ReplyDeleteSo what that they broke? They're still cookies, aren't they? :)
ReplyDeleteThey taste the same broken or not~ and sugar cookies are tasty! We made some a few days before Christmas. Santa insists on the best for his treats. While we were at it I made a triple batch and we took some around to the neighbors too. We too had lots of sprinkles, half of which ended up on the table. But it was fun!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE sugar cookies, but I've given up on making them! LOL Mark and I have tried about 3 or 4 different recipes and have had no luck in the past few years. This christmas we stuck with Fudge, which was much much easier! And it was just as addicting as sugar cookie dough:)
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, so I say Kudos for making them, even if they did break!! I'm sure they still tasted great:)
