A few weeks ago, Sadie's speech therapist was over, and I needed to occupy Dylan's attention, so I taught him how to rinse dishes, using a scrubby sponge and everything. Once he got the hang of it, he did sooo well! He was very thorough, and he wouldn't stop until every single dish was scrubbed and ready to be stacked into the dishwasher. I couldn't believe it. Ben came home, and he said, "You know, if you want to stop, I can finish up for you," but Dylan refused! He actually thought it was fun! I never, ever thought this boy would enjoy doing a chore. I'm going to start having him do more chores once he turns five (in a few weeks). And I think I'll start doing a tiny allowance. Nothing huge. I want to get him trained to do chores before he gets much older (or much mouthier). So I'm thinking he can rinse dishes once a week, and then he can sweep, mop, and dust his own bedroom once a week. And maybe make his bed every day. Am I being too ambitious??

Today I was folding laundry, and Jakob asked if he could help! So he (kind of) folded a blanket, and helped pull Pete's socks right side out. So cool! I need to start Jakob on chores, too, because he rocked when earning his potato head.
I have Ryan unload our dishwasher. Funny how he wants to help with Mommy chores and the girls...well, not so much. Shelby will help fold laundry I have all the kids put their own clothes away. (We are thinking of starting the kids with an allowance, to see if that will help Shelby with her money problems).
P.S.-You must have seen me in preggers jeans. On Monday I decided to see where I was at jeans-wise; I didn't even attempt before then.
Ila makes her own and her brothers bed every morning. She also picks up her room, washes windows, dusts, and helps to empty the dishwasher. Both of my kids love to help with dinner too so I let them grate cheese and cut olives and pickles and such when they are needed. (With knives that are totally kid safe of course.)
She also like to help with the luandry so she gets to help move the laundry from washer to dryer, and from dryer to basket. So nope I don't think you are too ambitious. Oh and both of my older kids love to set the table and clear their own dishes. Boy, I am a slave driver!
lets see... Chores. Believe it or not you may already be having him do things that are "chores" at my house. G gets tokens that he can spend on different things (like going to the park, having some popcorn, mom playing lego star wars with him, etc) To get tokens (poker chips) he has to do things like. Make his bed, clean up toys before bed without complaining, brush his teeth, get dressed, use the potty and get his PJ's on bfore the timer rings, etc...
our kids are supposed to make their beds everyday, and pick up their clothes. then on saturday, they REALLY clean their rooms. when bentley turned five, we started having him do an additional chore for a few months at a time (like setting the table before dinner or straitening the living room each evening). once he got the hang of it, we tried something new. he usually has to be shown how to do it a few times, but once he gets the hang of it, its great. good luck w/ dylan! :)
Isn't that why we had kids, to be our slaves?? Oh wait, maybe that was just my parents. Just kidding. I am glad he his enjoying his chores.
On another note, are you about ready to pop? How are you hanging in there? Hopefully your next entry will be about a new baby. Once I hit 27 weeks I am willing to do ANYTHING to get that baby out!
I have my kids doing chores by age 3. Right now they earn tickets for everything they do. At the end of the week they get their tickets cashed in. (10 cents a ticket) Some jobs are worth more than 1 ticket, it just depends on how much I want it done. They clean rooms, dust, put away clean laundry, make beds, unload the dishwasher. We made the ticket jars in an FHE and talked about chores. Plus it also gives them an opportunity to pay tithing. If you want more details you can call or email me. It works great for us!

Can he come do my dishes too? I would gladly show him around New York in trade! Kaitlyn loves to help me clean and Ethan is starting to follow suit, now if I could just get Ryan to join in more often!
I think it's awesome that Dylan loves doing dishes! Koen has just started to get excited when I'm folding laundry, he likes to hand me the clothes one at a time so I can fold them. Hey, anything works! Little by little!
