Unemployed.

Well, what we were fearing happened today. Ben's company went under. He came home at about 10 a.m. with all his stuff.

So... we've just been... floundering. Ben updated his resume and took it to some firms in town. Right now, he's updating his website, which is referenced in his resume, with all of his recent designs. And then he's going to start e-mailing resumes to wherever the heck... If we have to move, I'm not sure if our house will sell, or if we will lose a lot of money on it, or what. Or if I'll have to stay behind and sell the house or something.

I have about two weeks' worth of scanning, if I jump to full-time, which I will start tomorrow. So I need to start pounding the pavement myself. If Ben doesn't find an architecture job in the next couple of days, he'll just have to get a dumb job to get by. He's going to try to find night work while I find day work.

We've been through a lot, so I know we can get through this. I can't help but be a teeny, weeny bit pissy about it, though. I'm having a mental pity party right now, but I'll get over it.

Oh Kar- I'm SO sorry. That totally stinks. I know that it is definitely not desirable, but if you are looking for something quick you could always sub for a short time. I think it is either 55 or 60 a day if you have a certificate, but I'm not sure. If you want any info on getting your Idaho certificate let me know. We'll keep you in our prayers.

The economy sucks right now! Both of my brother in laws just got laid off and Daves business is doing nothing much! I am sorry that it happened to you guys also. I guess I should be thankful that teachers are always needed! Are you thinking of going back to teaching?

So so so sorry. It sounds like you have as good of perspective as possible given the circumstances. Hang in there!

Karlenn and Ben - I am really sorry about Ben's job. This economy has been hard on many of us, but there are so many unexpected and simple blessings that come with our trials. I cannot tell you how difficult it has been for us to be unemployed (almost seven months), yet we have grown closer and can see the Lord's hand in our life each day. I have found comfort in Elder Wirthlin's October conference address, "Come What May, and Love It". Laughter has gotten us through a lot! Good luck with your job search!

Ben, it's Josh Kirk, you need to get a hold of me, I have an idea that can make both of us very rich. I was looking for an architect, this might be the best time. Call or email.

Kar,
It is really scary the ammount of lay-offs that people are seeing.
You will be in our prayers that your family will be taken care of.
By the way...it's your party and if you wanted to be Peesed off that is just fine!!

that totally stinks! One thing I learned with my own lay off experience is that the Lord truly knows what we need, and He gives us trials to test us and bless us. It really really really stinks waiting for the blessings, but hold on...they are there!

Kar, So sorry to hear about Ben's job. We've been through this (more than once) and I know things will work out for you in the end. Sounds like you have a good plan. I applaud you for being so proactive and not just waiting around for something to come up. I'll be thinking of you and praying something great comes of this.

You have every right to be pissed and stay pissed. But also stay optimistic. You're right Heavenly Father will take care of your family. Do you want my job? It's full time. I am leaving at the end of the summer... most likely. I'll be praying for you.

Hi- You may not know me. I am Mindi Gifford's Sister, Angie. My husband was laid off as well this week. Luckily Casey went back to school and was expecting it. I still have my job and hopefully Casey's welding skills come in handy, but it is the emotional aspect that seems to bring my husband down the most. Just know that you are among friends going through the same trials. If you need to talk let me know.

I can feel your pain! The sting has lessened after two weeks, and I can already see some tender mercies that the Lord is sending our way. Just stay positive and soemthing will come. And in the end you'll be better for it.
