Straightjacket

This picture of Gage cracks me up so much:

It's a little outfit that has mittened hands, to help infants not scratch their faces so much. Gage had major face-scratching problems for awhile, but he seems to have outgrown it. Anyways, he looks like he's in some kind of a straightjacket in that picture, and it makes me chuckle.

What was he doing, sitting up, all grown-up-like? He was supervising me while I folded laundry.

As you can see, he had a scratch between his eyebrows. Probably pre-straightjacket outfit.

He loves to hang out with me while I fold laundry. We have many deep conversations, like the following:

Me: Hey, little man. You are so stinkin' cute, you know that?

Gage: [huge grin] Goo.

Me: Is that right?

Gage: Goo.

Me: Do you think laundry is the coolest?

Gage: Goo.

Me: Well, I don't. I hate it.

And so on.

An update on him: We keep visiting the good ole' pediatrician, week after week. Gage's white blood cell count continues to be high. The doc continues to absolutely refuse to try antibiotics. It makes me mad. What could it hurt??? He says he's talking to all of these specialists down at Primary Children's Hospital - no one can figure out what's going on, but they know for sure that it's not leukemia. Phew. Seriously, if something happened to him... I don't even want to think about it.

There is other good news - Gage has gained nine ounces in one week!!! That is REALLY GOOD for him! He was only gaining one - two ounces per week before. I think he's gaining better because I started rice cereal. It stays down really well for him. I think it's also because we're using more formula powder per water to up his caloric intake (per doctor's recommendation, of course).

He still barfs like a fountain. Nonstop. Never-ending. The doc wants us to continue using prevacid, which doesn't really seem to be helping much at all. But I'm fine with him barfing, as long as he's gaining weight. He can barf all over me, and I don't care, as long as he's okay.

Micah's occupational therapist showed me some exercises to do on Gage for his torticollis, just until he can get evaluated by the Infant/Toddler program. We've been doing the exercises for two weeks, and I can tell a huge improvement in his neck strength and head positioning. With any luck, he may test free and clear of torticollis! Which would be great.

We'll keep you updated on the stupid white blood cell thing.

He is a cutie pie!! Hope everything turns out well with those blood cell counts, thank heavens they've ruled out leukemia. I'll be praying that things continue to get better!

He looks so much like Micah! I can't believe it. They are twiners!

I am so glad he is gaining some weight! I hope the doctors figure out his white blood cell count soon. Mommys of babies have enough stress in their lives without undiagnosed issues adding to the fun. Hopefully that will get resolved and you can focus on how stinkin cute he is.

He is a total cutie!! He'll definitely be as heart breaker:) I'm glad the docs say it's not Leukemia! That's a big relief! Keep bugging the doctor about antibiotics! I wish doctors would just listen to us moms all the time. Hello, who knows best? Of course Mommy does!! They spend 2 minutes with our kids and we spend 24/7 with them. Good luck with that!

I'm glad the rice cereal is helping with his weight gain!! That's so awesome he gained 9 ounces in 1 week!
