Grandpa Smith's Funeral

We went down to Utah, just for one day, to go to Ben's grandpa's funeral. It was a really beautiful funeral - very thought-provoking - and Tim (Ben's dad) showered the place with photos of Leroy. In fact (and this is a good idea, if I ever have to plan a funeral), he printed out several pictures of Leroy so that every single person there could have them. He just put them out in a pile so that people could grab them as they entered. What a good idea, for these grandkids and great-grandkids to have photos of one of their ancestors.

Here's Leroy during World War II:

And Shirley his wife who died a few years ago:

Leroy and Shirley with his sister and her husband I think:

And this is Leroy within the last couple of years, before his cancer made him so skinny that he was unrecognizable. Ben's family is very into photography, and Leroy was an amazing photographer. I think he won Photographer of the Year from some photography association in Utah just a couple of years ago:

Here's a slideshow of the funeral and the luncheon afterwards:

Oooh, slide show! :) Did you say you got some of the photos that he took? That would be cool.

I am sorry for your loss. I also like that picture idea. When Shawn's Dad died they made nice little bookmarks with a picture of him. saying Dad, Friend, Husband, Brother, Son, Papa. followed by his favorite poem.

Sorry. I love the old photos! They would be cool framed and hung on a wall.
